The cross-country connection

Knock to Athlone is a route many visitors do not realise is possible without going through Dublin. The journey runs south-east through Claremorris, Castlerea, and Roscommon and takes around ninety minutes, a good deal less than a trip routed through the capital.

For family visits, wedding guests, and business trips to the midlands it is one of the quickest ways to get from the west's airport to the centre of the country.

Our local advantage

Athlone is our home town, so there is no repositioning trip and no learning curve for the drop-off. Hotels at Hodson Bay and Glasson, the town centre, and private addresses in the surrounding countryside are everyday destinations.

If you are arriving at Dublin or Shannon instead, the Dublin Airport to Athlone transfer and the Athlone Airport transfers page cover the other airports.

Making an arrival day of it

If you land in the morning with time before check-in, the Athlone and Clonmacnoise private tour is a good first-day option, giving you the castle, the monastic site, and a pint at Sean's Bar before your room is ready.

The same vehicle returns you to Knock for your onward flight at a time set by your departure.
